To conclude your day`s adventures, you`ll be transferred to a comfortable hotel in Sigiriya for a restful night.

We should set off for Polonnaruwa via Sigiriya right after breakfast. Along the way, you`ll have the opportunity to explore the Polonnaruwa Archaeological Site, which dates back to the 11th to the 13th centuries when it served as the capital of the country. Polonnaruwa, located approximately 140 kilometers from Kandy, is renowned for being one of the most well-preserved ancient cities in the world. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Polonnaruwa boasts a wealth of historical remains.

Despite its status as Sri Lanka`s second ancient capital, Polonnaruwa is a city that has been meticulously maintained, offering a treasure trove of archaeological landmarks and natural splendor. Situated in Sri Lanka`s North Central Province, Polonnaruwa encompasses a historic city, an adjoining `old town,` and a `new town` located about 6 kilometers away. The archaeological sites are thoughtfully laid out and easily accessible, making it convenient for visitors to explore on foot or, more commonly, by bicycle.

As evening descends, the sun bathes the surroundings in a warm, soothing light, while the air carries a sense of serenity. It`s a time for either solitary reflection or cherished moments with loved ones—a day when you become the curator of your own happiness. Your overnight stay in Polonnaruwa promises to be a memorable experience.

Our day commences after a satisfying breakfast as we embark on our journey from Polonnaruwa to the captivating city of Kandy. While en route, you`ll have the opportunity to explore the renowned Dambulla Cave Temple. This remarkable temple complex comprises five caverns, each serving as a shrine room adorned with a rich array of Buddha statues and other significant figures from Buddhist history. These caverns house a remarkable collection of 150 Buddha images, along with sculptures and paintings representing various epochs in Sinhalese sculpture and painting. Although some believe that the early paintings in Dambulla date back to the 8th century A.C., conclusive evidence remains elusive due to subsequent overpainting. Nonetheless, Dambulla stands as a veritable treasure trove of decorative motifs, echoing the patterns reminiscent of those found in Sigiriya.

Following your exploration of the Dambulla Cave Temple, your journey continues with a visit to the Matale Spice and Herbal Garden. Situated just 25 kilometers from the hill capital of Kandy, these gardens rank among the most extensive on the island. Here, you`ll be introduced to a myriad of spices, delving into their cultivation and preparation. Visitors are encouraged to meander through the lush gardens, immersing themselves in the world of nutmeg, pepper vines, clove trees, curry, cinnamon, and the rare cardamom, a close relative of ginger. This intriguing spice flourishes beneath the canopy of towering jungle trees and can only be harvested by hand. Visitors have the opportunity to procure these aromatic spices, traditional remedies, and cosmetics. Moreover, you can savor the full spectrum of Sri Lankan spices through a delectable lunch or indulge in an Ayurveda massage using natural garden products.

Our journey proceeds with a visit to the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. Although the term `elephant orphanage` may be unfamiliar to some, it is indeed a factual and genuine institution. This serene haven is dedicated to providing a natural habitat for captive elephant calves, ranging in age from mere weeks to fifty years. It stands as the sole orphanage of its kind on our planet, offering an invaluable sanctuary for these magnificent creatures.

As the day unfolds, you`ll have the chance to revel in the captivating Kandy cultural dancing performance, a vibrant display of extraordinary dance, acrobatics, resplendent costumes, and enchanting music. This cultural showcase takes place in the heart of Kandy town and showcases various styles of Kandyan dancing, originally indigenous to the region but now embraced across the island. Your day culminates with a visit to the Temple of the Tooth Relic (Dalada Maligawa), an esteemed UNESCO World Heritage Site. This Buddhist temple houses the sacred relic of Lord Buddha`s tooth and is nestled within the historic royal palace complex of the Kingdom of Kandy. Kandy, renowned as the last grand capital of Sri Lanka`s ancient monarchs, is profoundly enriched by the presence of this revered temple, a pivotal reason for the city`s designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

To conclude your day`s enriching experiences, you`ll enjoy an overnight stay in the captivating city of Kandy.

Our day kicks off following a satisfying breakfast as we embark on a scenic journey from Kandy to the charming city of Nuwara Eliya . As we traverse the picturesque route, you`ll have the opportunity to explore the renowned Royal Botanical Garden. Situated in Peradeniya, the Royal Botanical Gardens are the oldest formal gardens in Sri Lanka, beckoning approximately 2 million visitors each year, both local and foreign. The gardens are home to a rich tapestry of approximately 4,000 plant species, encompassing orchids, spices, medicinal herbs, palm trees, and more. One of its standout features is the remarkable orchid collection and the elegant palm-fringed pathways that traverse this lush paradise.

Our next stop takes us to a tea factory and museum, offering a glimpse into the fascinating history of tea in Sri Lanka. The Ceylon Tea Museum showcases the early pioneers of Sri Lankan tea trade, including notable figures like James Taylor, a Scottish tea farmer who played a pivotal role in introducing tea to Ceylon, and Thomas Lipton, another Scotsman renowned for producing Ceylon tea and exporting it to Western markets starting in 1890. The museum encompasses four stories, each filled with intriguing exhibits, including antique tea-processing equipment such as 19th-century generators, rollers, dryers, fermentation tables, and sorting machines. The ground and second floors house these impressive displays, while the first floor features a library and an auditorium presenting audio and video presentations. Additionally, the third floor houses a delightful tea shop, allowing you to savor and acquire the finest Ceylon teas.

To conclude our day`s journey, we embark on a delightful Nuwara Eliya city tour, offering the chance to immerse in more breathtaking scenery. Our city exploration commences with a visit to the historic Nuwara Eliya Golf Club, one of Asia`s oldest golf clubs, where you can admire its charming exterior. Proceeding further into town, you`ll be introduced to one of Sri Lanka`s oldest post offices, an exquisite Tudor-style colonial building characterized by its red brick facade. Our next stop takes us to the enchanting Victoria Park, a picturesque green space named in honor of Queen Victoria`s memorial. Stroll through the park, taking in the serene ambiance and the stunning vistas of lush landscapes, featuring beautiful trees and verdant lawns. Our journey continues to Lake Gregory, a remarkable man-made reservoir with a colonial legacy. Initially created to generate electricity, this lovely lake now serves as a hub for leisure and relaxation. It is enveloped by awe-inspiring views of distant mountains, making it a perfect spot for unwinding and capturing the beauty of the surroundings.

The day draws to a close, and you`ll relish an overnight stay in the charming Nuwara Eliya, a serene retreat amidst nature`s splendor.

Our day commences early as we check out from the hotel and set out on a captivating journey to Horton Plains. The focal point of Horton Plains National Park is the renowned World`s End, a breathtaking natural wonder where the highland plateau dramatically culminates, offering a sheer drop of 1,000 meters. In proximity, you`ll find Mini World`s End, characterized by a slightly lesser descent of 300 meters. For an awe-inspiring experience, we recommend reaching this location before 10 a.m., as the chances of witnessing a truly magnificent vista are significantly higher. Arriving later in the day, particularly during the wettest months from May to September, might obscure your view with rolling mists, turning the landscape into a white canvas. Although a small viewing area is designated, it is imperative to adhere to the designated path due to evident dangers near the cliff edge. For the more adventurous, an extension of the journey leads to Baker`s fall, one of Sri Lanka`s grandest waterfalls, making it a rewarding visit for those seeking a more energetic exploration.

The next leg of our adventure features a captivating rail journey from either Nanuoya or Ohiya train station to the charming town of Ella. This scenic highland train ride unfolds amidst the verdant tea plantations, treating you to breathtaking vistas of the hilly countryside. As the train weaves its way through the landscape, you`ll traverse man-made tunnels, witness striking grey stone cliffs, and glimpse cascading rivers and towering waterfalls adorning the mountainside. If your destination is Nuwara Eliya, consider a stop at Hatton or Nanuoya during the train`s steady ascent.

Our final destination for the day brings us to the iconic Ella Nine Arch Bridge. Nestled in the hill town of Ella in Sri Lanka, this ancient stone bridge, known locally as Ahas Namaye Palama or the Bridge in the Sky, is situated just 3 kilometers from Ella Railway Station. The Nine Arch Bridge is celebrated for its picturesque location amid lush tea plantations, framed by majestic mountains. Spanning a length of 91 meters and standing at a height of 24 meters, this historic structure never fails to captivate travelers with its sheer beauty. The bridge`s striking presence against the verdant backdrop, combined with the rocky path that leads to it, offers a hiking trail enriched with stops at waterfalls, ancient caverns, and verdant tea estates. Tourists and locals alike flock to this renowned site to witness the iconic blue train leisurely traversing the bridge, making it a perfect spot for photography and filming. Additionally, you`ll find several eateries nestled on the slopes, providing splendid views of the bridge.

Our day concludes with a comfortable overnight stay in the charming town of Ella, where you can unwind amidst the natural splendor of the surroundings.

Our morning begins with a delightful breakfast before we embark on our journey to Ella, with a picturesque route through Haputhale. As you traverse this scenic path, you may encounter the renowned Lipton`s Seat Viewpoint and the lush tea plantations that this region is celebrated for. Lipton`s Seat is a well-known vantage point that holds historical significance, as it was a favorite spot of Thomas Lipton, the tea magnate, who would sit here with a cup of tea in hand, gazing proudly at his sprawling tea estate. The view from Lipton`s Seat is nothing short of extraordinary, especially during the break of dawn. As the sun rises, the hills transform from deep blues to vibrant greens, while the sky transitions from shades of lavender to a burst of pink and orange before settling into a serene blue. To call this view spectacular would be an understatement. It`s essential to time your visit well, as by noon, a veil of mist tends to obscure the stunning vistas. Lipton`s Seat is undeniably a location that deserves a place on everyone`s must-visit list, offering a unique and enchanting experience.

Following your time at Lipton`s Seat, the next stop on our journey involves a brisk ascent to the summit of Little Adams Peak, accessible via the Lipton`s Seat route. This segment of the journey unveils breathtaking natural beauty in the heart of the hill country.

Little Adam`s Peak, named for its resemblance to the iconic Adam`s Peak, also known as Sri Pada, is Ella`s smaller yet equally captivating counterpart, and it is a must-see destination. The hike to the summit of Little Adam`s Peak is relatively straightforward, with a leisurely two-hour walk covering the 1141m elevation. The trail to Little Adam`s Peak is clearly marked, ensuring ease of navigation.

Your journey begins on fairly level terrain, surrounded by picturesque tea plantations. However, as you ascend, the trail gradually steepens, so wearing appropriate walking shoes is advisable to ensure a comfortable and safe trek.

The day concludes with a peaceful overnight stay in the charming town of Ella, allowing you to immerse yourself in the tranquility of the surrounding landscapes.

Our journey begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. as we make our way to Tissa. En route, prepare to be captivated by the breathtaking sight of the Ravana Waterfall. Ravana Falls stands prominently at the forefront of Sri Lanka`s list of stunning waterfalls, particularly within the scenic hill country of Ella. The falls are a sight to behold, exuding magnificence, and their grandeur can be appreciated more closely by navigating the rocky terrain. If you have a fondness for water and seek to immerse yourself in the refreshing cascade, this is the ideal spot in Ella. While you can take a refreshing swim in the cool waters, exercise caution as the rocks can be slippery. Ravana Falls, with a height of approximately 25 meters (82 feet), gracefully descends from an oval-shaped concave granite outcrop, marking one of the widest waterfalls in the country.

Yala, Sri Lanka`s second-largest and most renowned national park, has a rich history as a conservation hub in the country`s eastern region. Its origins date back to the early 20th century when it was initially established as a wildlife refuge. Recognizing its immense ecological significance, the area was granted national park status in 1938. Yala`s diverse ecosystem is a sanctuary for a wide array of flora and fauna, including several endangered species like elephants and leopards, alongside a multitude of bird species. The park is divided into five distinct zones, each offering its unique features and wildlife encounters.

Following this extraordinary safari experience, we proceeded to the Mulkirigala Rock Temple, a remarkable day trip destination in Tangalle. This temple, also known as Mulkirigala Raja Maha Viharaya, is perched atop a 673-foot-tall rock, and the ascent offers breathtaking views of the stupa and its surroundings. This rock temple, often referred to as `Little Sigiriya,` showcases outstanding architectural design but is less renowned than the Sigiriya Rock Fortress. The temple comprises five significant areas - Siyambalamaluwa, Bomaluwa, the Royal Temple Compound, the Upper Temple Compound, and the Lower Temple Compound - each adorned with various paintings, sculptures, and architectural elements. This site holds significant archaeological importance.

During your whale-watching expedition, you`ll have the chance to observe three distinct types of whales - killer whales, sperm whales, and bride whales. The marine diversity doesn`t end there; you`ll also encounter several species of dolphins, including spinner dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, and riso dolphins. Occasionally, lucky visitors may spot other remarkable marine creatures like the greenback turtle, whale shark, flying fish, and tuna fish.

This unique wetland ecosystem, adorned with a pristine mangrove forest, is not only a spectacle of nature but also a protected world heritage site, recognized under the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands. Embarking on a boat ride along the river is an ideal way to get up close and personal with this ecological marvel.

Our next stop brings us to a heartwarming turtle hatchery, a place dedicated to the preservation of these incredible sea creatures.
